Regels FIFA: blessuretijd in verlenging mag niet
Sporting Lissabon wist gisteravond in de 122ste minuut van de wedstrijd het doelpunt te maken die ze uiteindelijk naar de finale van de UEFA Cup bracht. Heel Nederland dompelde in diepe rouw, zeker nu blijkt dat het volgens de regels van de FIFA ook nog eens niet geldig blijkt te zijn.
Op 28 februari 2004 heeft de International Football Association Board (IFAB, bestuursorgaan van de FIFA) besloten om de volgende regel in te voeren:
Law 10 - Method of Scoring: Very applicable to playoffs and Cup Qualifiers With regard to the method for determining the winner of a match, the IFAB ruled in favour of extra-time, consisting of two periods of no more than 15 minutes each, followed by kicks from the penalty mark. As a result, matches will no longer be decided by "golden goal" or "silver goal".
All of the changes to the Laws of the Game shall come into force worldwide on 1 July 2004.
Uit deze regel blijkt dat de arbitrage gisteravond de wedstrijd na precies 120 minuten zou hebben moeten beëindigen, waardoor theoretisch AZ in de finale van de UEFA Cup zou zitten. De praktijk zorgt er echter voor dat Sporting de finale mag spelen.
